Physical health and mental health, why is it important

Both physical and mental health are important for humans. “Poor physical health can lead to an increased risk of developing a mental health problems and similarly, a poor mental health can also increase a possibility of creating physical health problems”. In other words, both physical health and mental health are associated with one another. For example, if you have a chronic anxiety and depression, you may have trouble sleeping which put your physical health at risk. According to numerous studies, a person with a depression will have a higher risk of heart diseases.

There are several lifestyle factors that can influence both physical and mental health:

1. Exercise
“Research shows that doing exercise influences the release and uptake of feel-good chemicals called endorphins in the brain”. Those who exercise regularly will have more positive mental state and good mood. Exercises also significantly improve physical health because by moving our body regularly, it can keep our body in shape and fit.

2. Diet
A healthy balanced diet can reduce the risk of having an illness in our bodies and also reduce the risk of developing mental health such as Alzheimer. Eat a diet that relies on vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and fishes to reduce the chance of depression. Furthermore, try to include breakfast into your daily routine because skipping meals can lead to fatigue. In addition, drink more water to avoid dehydration which can cause fatigue, difficulty concentrating, and mood changes, and also physical conditions such as, thirst, dizziness, dry skin and headache.

3. Stress
Many people that are diagnosed with mental health such as stress, anxiety, and depression can suffer from stress through various of symptoms which includes headaches and lack of energy. The cause of this are most likely to come from personal problems and past experience. When you are in a stressful situation, your body launches a physical response. if your stress system stays activated over a long period of time (chronic stress), it can lead to or aggravate more serious health problems. This leads to symptoms such as difficulty sleeping and concentrating, weight gain or loss and in long term cases leading to heart diseases.
