Sleep, More Important Than You Think

With busy daily lives, the first we forgo is sleep. But why is this? To some sleep is a waste of time and that a lack of sleep can just be countered with caffeine and energy supplements. In the long run though this is both unhealthy for you physically and mentally.

Many people don't know this but a lack of sleep can actually make you gain weight. Not getting enough hours of sleep leads to a fluctuation in appetite hormones and causes poor appetite regulation. This leads to eating more in quantity or in frequency. In many studies it is actually shown that people with short sleep duration are more likely to become obese. Short sleep has become one of the leading risk factors for obesity.

Getting enough sleep can also help you enhance your athletic performance gains. In studies involving many athletes, it was shown that a longer sleep would allow for a significant improvement in speed, accuracy, reaction times and mental well-being. Even your day to day performance would be effected by a lack of sleep. A study conducted with over 2800 women has shown that a lack of sleep has led to a slower walking speed, lose in grip strength and difficulty performing independent activities.

Most importantly of all is that a lack of sleep actually give you a heightened risk of heart disease and strokes. By being awake all the time the body is unable to rest properly and recuperate. It is when we sleep our bodies fix themselves from the daily ware and tare of life.

So in summary sleep is important. Both for your day to day and in the long term. Get proper sleep to ensure that your body is able to maintain itself properly and try and get between 7-8 hours of sleep. This will help you maintain both your physical and mental health.

What is pH and why does it matter for your water?

What is pH? pH is a measurement of electrically charged particles in a substance. It indicates how acidic or alkaline (basic) that substance is. The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14:           Acidic water has a pH lower than 7. The most acidic substances have a pH of 0. Battery acid falls into this category.           Alkaline water has a pH of 8 or above. The most alkaline substances, such as lye, have a pH of 14.           Pure water has a pH of 7 and is considered “neutral” because it has neither acidic nor basic qualities. Freshwater pH varies across the world depending on weather patterns, human activity, and natural processes. Water with a very low or high pH can be a sign of chemical or heavy metal pollution. Water that doesn’t fall in the “safe” pH range of 6.5 to 8.5, particularly if it’s alkaline, isn’t necessarily unsafe. However, very alkaline water can have an unpleasant smell or...

Weighted Blankets For A Better Nights Rest

How Do Weighted Blankets Work? Weighted blankets provide a sensation known as ‘grounding’ that applies moderate pressure to the sleeper’s body and pushes them further into their sleep surface. Grounding also triggers the release of hormones that calm the nerves and lead to a good night’s sleep. The blanket’s weight is key for preserving sleep quality and getting an adequate amount of rest each night. Weighted blankets should be tailored to the individual user. Most adults reach optimal comfort levels using a blanket that weighs roughly 5% to 10% of their own body weight. Children may also use weighted blankets; for most kids, a blanket weighing 10% of their body weight will yield the best results. Weighted blankets carry health and safety risks for children under eight years of age; kids in this age group should avoid using a weighted blanket unless it has been prescribed by a physician or licensed therapist. Additionally, people with the following conditions should speak w...
